The organisation of primary school children’s on-task and off-task talk in a small group setting
This paper is taken from a British Academy funded research project on children's interactions in school. My aim in this, and other related work, is to explore some of the talk that children engage in while they are at school. My focus however is not just on whole class teaching, but on the various other activities that constitute being at school, and the kind of discursive strategies the children are using to to get these done. More broadly, I am interested in the language of this 7 - 11 year old age-group and the interactional features of their peer talk. both in the classroom and outside it.
