"I'm a bit concerned" - call openings on a child protection helpline

Jonathan’s research has been concerned with the development of discourse analysis and discursive psychology. His methodological work has focused on the practicalities of analysing discourse, the way claims are justified, and the relation between discourse, rhetoric and conversation analysis. His theoretical work has developed a discursive alternative to some of the basic theoretical and analytical notions of social psychology and cognition, called discursive psychology. He is currently most interested in the analysis of audio and video recordings of naturalistic interaction. Jonathan is collaborating on the analysis of interaction on the NSPCC child protection helpline with Alexa Hepburn. Alexa has had a long-standing interest in children’s rights, and has published on constructions of authority, control and bullying in school situations. She also adopts a radically anti-foundationalist theoretical stance and has written about the application of Jacques Derrida’s work in psychology. She is fascinated by interaction, transcription and analysis of audio and video interaction.
